Ques1. What is Environment? What is environmental pollution?

Ans 1.ENVIRONMENT
The environment is defined as the totality of a man’s surroundings –both natural and man made.
OR
Surroundings in which an organization operates, including air, water, land, natural resources, flora, fauna, humans and their interrelation.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION:
The condition resulting from the presence of chemical, mineral, radioactive, or biological substances that alter the natural environment or that adversely affect human health or the quality of life, biosystems, the environment, structures, equipment, recreational opportunities, aesthetics, or natural beauty.
OR
Environmental pollution refers to the injection of harmful substances into atmosphere.

Ans 2. Environmental pollution arises due to the following causes:

1) Air pollution: It is a serious problem for the whole world as it has created the a hole in the ozone layer of atmosphere due to the carbon monoxide emitted by automobiles and Smoke, chemicals emitted by factories.

2) Water pollution: It refers to the dumping of the chemicals and other waste in rivers, lakes etc. This generally happens due to the factories which are located near the rivers.

3) Land pollution: It refers to the dumping of the toxic waste in the land which damages the fertility of land and makes it unfit for agriculture or plantation.

4) Noise Pollution: It is caused by modern machines and gadgets such as loud speakers, generators, automobiles, machineries etc. It distorts communication process.
